How we make a wallet

  1. 1. Cut the pattern. The cardboard pattern is traced onto the leather and cut with a knife we sharpen every morning.
  2. 2. Skive the edges. Edges that will be folded are thinned so the seams lie flat instead of bulging.
  3. 3. Punch the holes. A stitching chisel makes angled holes 4 mm apart, identical on both sides.
  4. 4. Saddle stitch. Two needles, one waxed thread. If one stitch breaks, the rest hold.
  5. 5. Burnish the edges. The edges are sanded, waxed with beeswax, then rubbed with wood until they shine.

Caring for leather

  • Wipe with a dry cloth. Water and soap stiffen the leather.
  • Rub in a thin layer of beeswax balm every 3 to 6 months.
  • Caught in the rain? Let it dry on its own at room temperature, never in the sun or with a hairdryer.
  • Light scratches rub out with a fingertip. That's the beauty of vegetable-tanned leather.

Stitching guarantee

  • Stitching come loose? Send it back and we'll re-stitch it free, however old it is.
  • We cover return shipping in the first year.
  • Leather torn through use can still be patched; you pay only for materials.
